In My Garden

I've been dreaming about spring all week and found myself wanting to paint something just for me!!!  I am currently reading the book "Taking Flight" by Kelly Rae and it's one of the best books on collage I have ever read.  It's full of wonderful techniques and soul searching thoughts.  This piece was inspired by one of the pieces in her book.

65th Birthday Materpiece

The past Saturday was filled with some very special family moments.  My mom and father-in-law were born on the exact same day and both turned 65 this year. We celebrated with a surprise party for them.  It was a wonderful turnout with lots of food, decorations, friends, family and even some surprise guest from afar.  My sister, her daughter and son-in-law made this whimsical birthday cake; can you believe it took them two days to complete?  This cake was not only beautiful but tasted amazing too.  Thank you, Kerry, Chelsea and Erik for your hardwork.  I know the birthday boy and girl both loooooved it!

Dance

Title: Dance   Size: 8x10 Medium:  Mixed Media Collage

Lately I've been thinking more and more about how I got here and where I'm going. I have these dreams for the future of living my authentic life, being creative and sharing what's inside my heart without fearing the rejection of others.  I think about my dreams and the fears stopping me from fully stepping into them and making them real.  One barrier that has surfaced repeatedly throughout the years has been the fear of stepping on the toes of others.  I am coming to realize, if I want to dance my dance, I need to break through these barrier and leap fearlessly towards the dance of my life.

This painting was one of the pieces I created while working through "Taking Flight".  I've learned so much about mixed media collage through Kelly's book.  I'm still on my journey in finding my own unique style.  I have a vision of what that is and i'm moving closer and closer to it day by day.

Valentine Mixed Media Collage

I got a little carried away this valentine’s day and I am sure that a few of you will find this blog post a little sappy but sometimes life is sappy. It all started one evening while reading through a box of old letters I have received throughout the years.  I read them on occasion when I want to take a walk down memory lane, there is nothing like unfolding an old letter and letting our minds drift back to that time in our lives.  My daughter walked in and was amazed at the box full of letters; she asked why I had so many. I told her things were very different back then as we did not have MSN, Twitter and Skype to keep in touch.  I am so grateful that I have the love letters my husband and I wrote to each other as a reminder of the young couple we once were. Experiencing these memories and feelings while reading our letters inspired me to do this piece.

Pretty Mixed Media Collage Art (SOLD)

These are three fun pieces I completed this past weekend!   My family was away and I wanted to play with my paints:)  I'm hoping to get a few more like these done by April as I'll be offering a Mixed Media Collage Workshop at the Naked North Gallery and Gifts.   At this workshop I will be bringing together a variety of mixed media and papercrafting techniques including collage, rubber stamping, and embellishing. The creative possibilities are endless! At the end of the workshop each participant will have a completed 8x10 piece of art to take home with them.  Beginner and advanced crafters are welcome. I'm hoping this class will inspire my students to create their own multi-dimensional art that is reflective of thier moods, thoughts and life.
